Don't give up on this author based on this book. Her "Seared by Desire" and "Whilrwind" are great stories. This book unfortunately has a TSTL heroine and so many holes in the world of believability that I can't believe it's the same author. Also, there are needed details on the world building. Here's the list of what went wrong for me while reading this story:
- the heroine has way too many bad things happen to her. She is too much the victim at the age of almost 21. You never figure out why her mother allowed her husband to beat her almost to death and was nothing but abusive and certainly never a provider. When the behavior of the father is so callous, yet the mother and the heroine stick around for it, you need a better reason other than that for the mother "she loved him" (what total lack of self esteem was she facing?) and for the heroine (she tried to run away but he convinced the authorities he cared - hello, she's an adult, he has no legal hold over her and the law would have been on her side, not to mention shelters to help her get on her feet).
- the school bully. Really? As another reviewer noted, this is junior high behavior, not university. It was another unnecessary enemy added to force the reader to feel sorry for the heroine.
- the heroine has zero friends because of her awful home life. Uhh, if she is that traumatized, no way is she ready to become queen of a society she knows nothing about. If anyone had as lousy of a life as she had, then serious counseling would be needed - no way could she have turned out okay without assistance/support over a long period of time.
- when she finds out that there are such things as werewolves and she is a witch, there is very little to almost zero curiosity on her part. Her first thoughts should be Holy Shxxxt! You're a werewolf, what does that mean? I'm a witch? What are my powers? etc. Instead, the author wastes story time on long drawn out dialogues on whether the father should be killed.
- where is the world building for the werewolf society? Where is this "kingdom" in the US? How do they live under the radar and exactly how do they make their money?
- over use of the statement: "I should kill you" That threat is issued for something as small as an advisor suggesting that the hero should throw in the towel on waiting for his true mate to everything else.

A Wolf Duty Love Bites Book 1 edition by Jennifer T Alli Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I read this story before it became available on , having followed the author from fictionpress.com. I like this story VERY much and I really appreciate a good werewolf fiction. There aren't too many of them around, I find. However, despite the amateur writing style, the story itself is creative and a good read.
i chose this rating because its well written and the plot is so great. Has well written steamy sections and I like the characters growth. love this book
a wolf with a duty and a girl with a problem
she . . . needs help from . . . and tabias will give it to her.
just one little . . . or big on what you consider is a problem happens.
you will have to read and find out ;p
I have started and stopped this book several times and just deleted it from my . It drags along to the point that I just could not keep on trying. The writing did not flow at all, I felt nothing for the characters. (sorry for any spelling errors)
This one it's hard for me. I'm rereading cause I couldn't remember. Don't know if I can finish. Things are not answered. I don't get why the character stays with the abusive father ( who was the cause her mother's death ) if she was underage or crooked cops were in the picture. Then I could see her being stuck there but she's 20 yrs old works everyday and goes to school. Old enough to leave which she states she tries to go but gets caught every time. I'm sorry you're telling me a lazy no good drunk ( who won't go get his own alcohol he sends her to do it ) is going to get off his butt and watch you 24hrs a day? Take an off day tell work to pretend you're there and disappear ? ( Jobs are elsewhere sorry. Life or death or possible rape. I'd find another job. ) plus worked when you wanted to see hero. Why not slip away when he's passed out from drinking? When you went to buy the alcohol for him? Why the hell doesn't she report him to the law and take that chance to escape then? She's had bruises and broken bones evidence right there. Something that's better then "Oh no, I'll be lucky to walk by Monday. No big about bruised ribs but one more beating will kill me. "
Also why does she think all the sudden in a month she will have freedom because of a 'degree'. When she's discouraged by failure before. I guess I don't like this book because I would not be hanging around I would fight tooth and nail especially at the one responsible for someone's death. I kept in mind too that she had watched her mother deal with this abuse. Sometimes what you learn is what you do too but you could die.
I really just got tired of constantly hearing about maybe getting another beating or ooh that will cause a beating. ( even giggles when she thinks this ) I needed more realistic answers. Something to cause escape to be near impossible. Like what caused her to get caught trying to leave before. We know of an attempt but we're told nothing. Why then can she all the sudden sneak away most the weekend because she says she's at work but in fact hanging with hero. ( a hero that feels strong emotion knew you've had extreme moments of pain but doesn't ask you about it after he admits he's connected to you ) I needed to see the whole picture so I could understand and like Xandria better.
I had tried to ready this book before but got halfway through it and had to stop. Now that I got some free time though I finally finished it! It was so good I started reading it yesterday at 430ish and its 4 now the next day and I just finished! I couldn't put it down! I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone to young bc it does go into detail about some sexual things but other than that I loved the book and I'm so excited to start the next one!
I reread this story often because I love it so much. I adore the characters and the premise. It's definitely my favorite version of the "mate" plot that is found in many books. Well written, good grammar, and long enough to feel like a true book. An amazing start to a wonderful series of books. I just wish the were more! (Genuinely, I really hope she writes more within this world).
